From an Ex Couch Potato to a 1/2 Marathon Walk!
Monday, September 10, 2012
Yesterday I walked over 1/2 Marathon (13.53 miles) for the Jimmy Fund which is a cancer research fund for the Dana Farber Institute in Boston, MA. Last year was my first year walking and I completed a 5 mile walk then which was less than a year after having a total knee replacement.
I am more physically active than I have ever been so I thought I would challenge myself even more. I thought just maybe it was possible for me to do the 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles). At first I really wasn't absolutely positive that I could do it, but I had so many people believing in me I began to start believing.
If I could change my life from weighing 450 pounds and being a couch potato to walking 5 miles, I thought why not dream big. I trained for the walk and had so many people cheering me on in the background. All of my friends including my Spark Friends and trainer encouraged me and helped me believe in myself.
I used to huff and puff going up just one flight of stairs and now I completed a 1/2 marathon! Just think of me and Believe that Change is Possible!
Tribute wall that you sign at the start.
This year I walked in memory of my mom who died of colon cancer and in honor of my cousin Babara who survived ovarian cancer, but in honor of my friends Rosemary and Donata as well.
