I pegged September as my 'get back in the groove and ditch the extra summer lbs' month. (By the way, if I were to write a book about my summer, the title would definitely be, "I Was a Poolside Slacker", excellent story aside from the non-existent plot, slow-moving story line and excessive use of the words 'Margarita' and 'take-out'
Seriously though, I am a lucky, genetically-blessed sod, ending up with just a few little pounds separating me from my usual maintaining weight.
I'm happy to be off the chaise-lounge and back into my regular routine, but it comes with a few extra challenges this month. DH has a heavy work sched and that means that I am back to a lot of single parenting, AND I don't have regular access to my trusty treadmill - my go-to exercise that lets me mindlessly burn calories in the wee hours of the morning (hint to those who wonder how folks can work out at 5:30 in the morning....it's cause we're still too sleep-fogged to realize what we are actually doing!).
I've adjusted well and am pretty proud of my new-found adaptability and managed to squeeze in a few random workouts last week. Although I didn't burn as many cals as I'd hoped, simply showing myself that I can be flexible about when and how I exercise was hugely satisfying. I also reigned in my eating habits last week AND most importantly for me, am on the 8th day of an AF streak. I know how much this impacts my efforts to keep my weight at a comfy level, so I've decided that I'll stay AF until I bring my weight down to the middle of my maintenance range......
Which, unfortunately didn't happen magically in just one week. Can you believe it?
I did drop a bit of water weight quickly, but I've worked all I can out of that, and it's time to get down to business...
So, this week, I will continue to stay on track, and (the second the worst of the cold I currently have has passed), will get back in the saddle, and move on to step 2 of my dastardly plan....begin logging food again. Hey, it works.
BTW I did do one other good thing last week....I finally did the INSANITY Fit Test, proving to myself that I am capable of getting those DVDs out of their shiny packages and putting them to use! No, I didn't start the program right away, but I've taken the first step and am still learning that sometimes it's more important to just get the ball rolling first, and worry about rolling it perfectly some other time!
