We had family over yesterday. It was planned for weeks for 10 people. We purposely kept it small so we too could enjoy the company as well.
We all were looking forward to the company. We love having guests but this past year since Ralph death I sort of slowed down. Less luncheons, less BBQs and less dinner parties. We did host some just not as much as usual. So we were all looking forward to this evening.
DH and I planned a menu my stuff baked clams, stuff peppers and stuff mushrooms and DH's pot roast. The story continues...
So, after weeks of planing, I went food shopping. Then right after I bought all the ingredients for the dinner party. I get a phone call three of them had to cancel due to our uncle being in the hospital. We understood but I still was disappointed. Our uncle was doing fine (so they say) but the docs want to keep him for awhile. This sounded particular because the last time a doctor said all would be okay, just taking tests... a few days later I got the worst news of my life..."YOUR brother, Ralph is dying, Anne.". Still, for now, I choosing to believe all we be well.
Now we were down to 7 guests. So, all day Friday I sliced, diced, saute, blended and mix the food. Then cleaned like a idiot (plus two loads of laundry and flag football practice). Saturday morning I got up early I continued cooking than the final step...stuff the mushrooms, clams and peppers. In between, making breakfast for the kids, making beds and straighten up. Of course, showered then boom I get a phone call. It was our cousins (the rest of the company)they were concerned about stormy weather. They were canceling. Again, I get it we live over an hour away from them, but gees! I just could not handle the whole conversation so I excused myself calmly and handed the phone to Michael. I thought I was going to cry. I love having guests but this past year since Ralph death I sort need it too. DH explained that the weather here was not bad just simple rain and that is all it would be. He convince them to either come Sunday or give it a few hours for rainstorm to let up by them. Phew, they decided that is what they would do.
They all arrived safely. Thank GOD! And we had a lovely evening. I know my emotions are getting the best of me lately. I mean seriously I could have just freeze 90% of the food and enjoy the cleaned straighten home, but I just get emotional, much more than usual. So much has happened this past year between 2011 and 2012.
Oh and more good news, I called to hear how our uncle was doing. He is so cute, (he is 83yo) and is doing fine. I will feel even better when he is home fine should be released this week. He was so disappointed he missed our dinner gathering.
