To the Newbies and the Doubters!

Sunday, September 09, 2012

I have a Spark buddy named Andy. He was posed a question by newbies on why he spent so much time on the computer/SparkPeople. I just had to share it, because to be successful with anything, you do need to spend time understanding how things really work, and follow directions. SparkPeople does give simple and easy to follow directions.

Here is part of Andy's blog.

Letter to the Newbies and the Doubters!
Sunday, September 09, 2012

Hey Sparkfriend (name changed to protect the innocent)

I understand where your comment is coming from, I do seem to be on the computer a lot. I usually start and end each day with 30 minutes on the exercise bike. My newest toy, the iPad let's me spark while riding. During the day at work I have been getting in 8000 to 10000 steps. At night rather than using the car I also walk to the grocery store, pharmacy wherever.

I have found that the more immersed I become in my spark teams, I tend to speak with like minded individuals who have similar goals, can offer support and keep my mind focussed on my health and fitness goals. Today I have been on the bike twice for an hour total, mowed the lawn, worked on the gardens and more. And now, time to help out some more at this birthday party.

Hope your day is going great. Enjoy!

All I can say is I'm glad you spend some time on the PC because you sure have been a joy and a comfort to the friends who are lucky enough to know you--like me! Thanks for all your words of encouragement and support. They help to light the way when all seems dark. HUGS!!

"...to be successful with anything, you do need to spend time understanding how things really work..."

When I first started in 2007, I did very well with the weight loss and my husband was pretty upset on how much time I spent on here. So I quit and gained everything back and then some! I am back and getting back in the groove. I think it will be easier this time around. Good luck to everyone!

I just joined Spark two days ago and I do find that I spend a lot of time here but in a way that may be better. Before I would spend my time playing mindless flash games, watching movies and the like but at least while I am here I can read a motivational story, track some of my progress today and maybe even make a friend or two. :D I find what has been really hard for my journey is my feelings of hopelessness and lack of support so knowing that there are other people out there who are going through similar issues means a lot to me.
