Hi everyone,

Here is another "story" if you will about Dad and me. Math has never been my strong subject and I particularly had difficulty with those "thought" or "story" problems. Remember those? The ones with the apples, oranges, bushels, take away so many or divide so many and come up with an answer? Well, one night after working so patiently with me Dad asked me to close my eyes and try and visualize what the problem was talking about. So, I closed my eyes and thought. And thought. And thought. Finally Dad asked me to tell him what I saw. My answer? "DARK ! ! " Well, at that point Dad just laughed, closed the book and said we were done for the night. I then went to bed as it was past my bed time. I don't know how many times that was brought up in the years since then. We always got a good laugh out of that one. Dad truly had the patience of Job with me.

What is strange is that I am very good at music, which is math, but in some kinds of math I just don't get it. But at least I do get it when it counts for me. Guess who is in charge of the bills in our marriage? Yep, me. I am very good at organizing and filing things so I guess that's why Arjay asked me to take care of that part of our marriage partnership. But we also have a computer program that subtracts and adds for me as I enter each item so that makes it better for me.

I have been so sleepy today and even went and took a 2 hr. nap this afternoon. It's because I had a medical procedure done yesterday that required me to be put to sleep. Guess what they used? Propofol in my IV. Yep, the same thing Michael Jackson's Dr. gave him, but the difference was that I was monitored very closely and was on oxygen and wasn't given too much of it. My nurse didn't leave the room either. But that is powerful stuff. The sleepiness can last 24 to 36 hours. Needless to say I didn't drive yesterday or today but I should be fine by tomorrow morning to drive to church. I also have to go to the store and then sweep/mop our LR, Kitchen and Bathroom floors in the afternoon as I am having company Monday afternoon and didn't get it done today. I also want to throw the throw rugs in the wash at the same time. It shouldn't take more than an hour and I'll have the football game on as I'm getting those things done. I'll be asking hubby to clean the ceiling fans in the LR for me.

I have to be on a high fiber diet. Thought I was getting enough fiber in my diet but apparently I'm not. Does anyone know what the suggested daily amount of fiber intake is per day? I also have to take a fiber supplement. So it's off to the store after church to load up on more fruits and veggies. I also read where almonds have a good source of fiber in them. Any other suggestions? I will also get some raisins. Anyone know what kind of lunch meat is good for increasing fiber? I want to start eating a sandwich for lunch rather than a slim fast daily. I'll find another way for my chocolate fix.

    Nellie is right no fiber in animal products. Hit the plants.
    Beans and other legumes are great. A lot of fruits, esp berries are good sources.
    I eat high fiber cereal a few days a week.

    Elayne, you made me laugh! I have had two Math careers. First, I taught high school math in the seventies. Then, I taught college math ... actually, I taught future elementary school teachers how to teach math. Many of my future teachers could not do thought problems either. It was a tough, but rewarding career. I am happily retired now.

    You Dad sounds like a very nice guy.

    Animal products don't have fiber in them. Fruits, vegetables, grain products do. If it walks, swim, or flies - no fiber. If it grows in the dirt - fiber.

    Cereals are a good way to get fiber. Buying whole grain bread is also a great source. Many of the whole wheat products are using the soft white wheat instead of the hard red wheat. It makes for a product that is similar to white bread.

    Hi Elayne,

    Thanks for sharing this story! I am not surprised you felt sleepy after the Propofol! The pain specialist I saw put it last on a list of drugs to try if my Fibro pain can't be helped by anything else - but my GP and I are very hesitant about it. Hope you have recovered from it now. Take care and look after yourself !

    Have you thought of buying Benifiber as it is tasteless and can be added to food or drink for added fiber?

    Hope you're feeling perkier today. As for the fibre intake, I agree with NellieC... it can be tracked on the SP nutrition tracker.

    So far as I know, there is no meat that has fiber. The gristle does not count as being part of the meat! If a person is over 65 the minimum is 21 g of fiber which is lower than if you are younger. The highest is 45 g of fiber. For breakfast I use a fair number of cereals that have bran and also the shredded wheat types. I love the Fiber One products. Whole grain breads are good, and many vegetables and fruits have a fair amount of fiber.

    I think if you click on change diet settings, and choose fiber to track, then they will tell you the general range for fiber if you are younger than 65.
