I WILL run across America (and then the world!)

Friday, September 07, 2012

I was reading about a person running around the world and thought...hey, I can do that!

So I looked it up. Turns out, to run around the world, I'll have to run 24,901.55 miles. At my current goal of running 10 miles a week, it will take me 47.89 years.

And I'm working up to it. But my shorter term (though still long-term) goal is to run across America. It's a starting point!

I logged onto the Run Across America website ( ) and added in the mileage I've already gotten since July. A grand total of 41 two months! Which got me really excited, until I realized that 41 miles got me to Charles City, VA.

This is going to take a while.

But it was really cool looking back at my early "runs" and seeing how far I've come. The average run, starting off, was a 20 minute run taking me 1.5 miles. Now, my normal run is 4-5 miles in about 50-60 minutes.

I'll make it across America in NO TIME if I keep up with my workouts and keep progressing and getting better!

That is a really fun idea! You can totally do it in less than 47.89 years. emoticon

Have you always liked running or did you just get into it?

I think it starts in Yorktown? That's what the map says, anyway!

The TransAmerican trail this site tracks takes a twisty-turny route, so it will be 4063 miles to make it across the U.S. -- and 737.7 miles to get out of Virginia (I hear it's a very common goal...BAZINGA!)

Seriously, though, I think making it out of Virginia by my 30th birthday is ambitious but still doable! It means running an average of 8.5 miles, three times a week, from now until March 10. I'm still at the 4-5 mile point, but 5 is easier every day and I think I'm ready to add in a 6-mile run on the weekends!

    Good attitude!
Remember you just recently started running. It takes time to build up distance and speed. You will be surprised in time you will be doing 25-30 miles a week. That should add up that milage across America a lot faster.
