82 Back in business

Thursday, September 06, 2012

This illness of mine is better and it is vague enough for me to get back to work today. There will be a pile of mails and stuff to look through so that is the goal for today - to organize and plan for the october edition.

A friend visited for a cup of coffee yesterday - she is going to India for a fortnight and has had a lot of work getting her visa and passport cleared by the inidan embassy... she has been a freelance ournalist for about twenty years and goes on two-three week trips about five times a year to countries Brasilia, China, India, Dubai, Chile, South Africa and does articles for Volvo and ther industrial businesses...I envy her ability to make this work, I do not envy the trips, I wonder what is wrong with me that is not at all interested in traveling...I would love to go to those places if I did not have to do the journey, I get so bored on flights, I hate to wait and drag luggage in big terminals, I hate to stand in line to check-in...I did a lot of hitch-hiking as young, I think that cured me from traveling forever.... when this friend is at home, she and her wife packs their camper and go riding around Europe...I might like that, to bring the home along....

Today´s creative project...:

I am going to act as fortuneteller and need a lot of rings to look autentic... I normally don´t wear rings and needed to make a box to keep these big ones from getting chipped. An empty cold cream bos and decor tape for hula hoops ... my hands get so heavy from those rings that it would make an extra effective arm workout using them... but I think it will be a nice effect with the tarot deck.

I love the ring box...and the rings! I need to try that kind of creative stuff.

I hate traveling solely because the packing to get there and then the putting it all away when I get back, is too much work and feels like moving. And, I don't like moving, even if it is (partial) such as taking everything I will need for a trip.

My sentiments on traveling too; love the visit, hate the trip. I really enjoy being home. Love the ring box! I like little jewelry boxes for keeping the frequently used pieces separate and handy from those less frequently used. So glad you are feeling better!

    Glad you are feeling better!

I'm not much of a traveller either, I like the comforts of my home.

Plus, it is hard to travel with a full size quitar!

The ring-box came out lovely! Very creative, Meddy--!

Re travelling: I like day-trips, because I love exploring historic sites and museums and some types of parks or botanical gardens or seashores. One of the best day-trips we took was to an archaeological dig where I spent some time searching for pieces of tessera (sp?), little squares of ancient Roman mosaic tile. And I've gone on a couple different fossil hunts.

But the longer trips have become less and less fun for me. Maybe I'm just getting old, but fighting crowds to see major artifacts or monuments up close... trying to find a bathroom in a strange place... wondering what this food or that food will do to my blood-glucose... sleeping in unfamiliar places where the noise keeps me awake or the bed's uncomfortable... No, I don't envy your friend the trips either, even if the hotels are first-class / five-star, lol. I have yet to hear of anyone visiting India and not coming back with a case of 'Dehli-belly,' and I don't think it a good way to lose weight--!
