SparkPeople's 5K Your Way Rookie Running Program

Hey all,
Well I just signed up for SparkPeople's 5K Your Way Rookie Running Program. Am I am seriously thinking about actually registering for a 5K in my home town scheduled for Nov 6th, which would put me about a week after the 8 wk training program if I start this Monday.
And since the program is only 3 days a week, it seems doable, because I usually have at least 3 days off (from 2nd job). The only thing is, I dont have a treadmill so Id HAVE to run outside.......if the weather permits.
Im excited about trying it and it seems perfectly doable.
I know I signed up last year, but ended up not doing it. I SHOULD do it this year. Ive always wanted to start running but never had the courage to do it (since it is outside).

What are your thoughts?

    Go for it! Remember too, there's nothing that says you have to run the entire way. It's perfectly OK to walk here and there. I've completed everything from 5Ks to full marathons just powerwalking (before I injured my knee and ankle), and sometimes I was even faster than some of the runners. ;-) What matters is that you get out there and cross that finish line!

    And don't worry about doing your thing in public. I once had someone stop me on the busy street where I was walking at work and tell me how inspired they were to see me out there every day and how great I looked. Man, did that ever make my day! So just go for it, and you'll be amazing because you are doing it for YOU!

    Well-you know, I've just recently started WALKING these hills and they are 'mountains' some days....the first few days I was very self-conscious as I huffed and puffed up them red-faced and sweating like I was actually running a marathon or something....especially when folks from church stopped to see if I 'needed a ride' and were concerned over my red face ...LOL

    3 weeks later they just wave as they go by and I wave back ( when I can wipe the sweat from my eyes to see them that is)!....the thing is, I'm not doing it to impress anyone...I'm doing it for me....

    You CAN do this...for me the hardest part is getting out the door...once I do that and make it out of the yard I'm good to go....let's goooooo emoticon

    I know I am not all that important to passers-by either, but it unnerves me just doing it outdoors "in front of others". But I did see a few gals running on my way to work the other day.

    I did the 5K your way this summer and all but the first day and one 5K I was inside on the treadmill. I don't want to run outdoors either, but I know I'm not nearly as interesting and important to passers-by as I "think" I am. I do care about me, though, and that's why I signed up.

    Just remember that there is no rule that says you have to run the entire thing. I did several 5Ks over the past 2 years and it took me over a year to be able to run a full on without stopping. You can definitely do this.
