Honestly......We need a cool down!!! Please???

Monday, September 03, 2012

Hi Spark Friends,
I've decided to not complain about the heat, but compliment myself instead. I do not function as well in the heat as I used to when I was a young thing. So I could easily use it as an excuse to not get out for my runs. I've been pretty consistent this summer, despite some health challenges. My Spark friends have been so supportive.

Tonight I put on my running duds and waited and waited and waited for the temps to go down. The only thing going down was the sun, so I just took off (promising my husband I'd be careful.....we affectionately call him Captain Safety). I figured I had about a 1/2 hour before complete dark, so I decided I would go 15 minutes out and 15 minutes back.

This is a sign on a local business I passed on our main boulevard. When I saw the temp. flash up on the sign, I paused my Nike Run program and snapped a picture.

My victory is that I am being cautious, but not using excuses any more. The exercise has become fun, invigorating, and mood elevating. Woo Hoo.

Have a wonderful week, my Spark friends, filled with health, fitness, and love.

Peace,
Leslie

BE CAREFUL! I'm blessed to be a morning person so I can run before the heat.

I use the nike+ running app (the free one). Is that what you use?

I'm with YOU and Beth; a major weather-whiner! LOL

We got up and out yesterday BEFORE THE SUN CAME UP. Walked 1.5 miles before it was light enough to start to do our intervals.

It is supposed to be 105-107 today here in Central Arkansas. We are going to the fitness center!

Congratulations to YOU and ME for doing what we have to do and NOT letting excuses get in our way! (Love the Captain Safety; I'm married to one too!) emoticon

I have turned into a major weather whiner!! I am soooo over the heat and humidity; especially the humidity!!! I "walk" to Leslie Sansone in my house because walking outside makes me feel awful. I need a nip in the air!!

Funny story: when my friend studied abroad somewhere hot in college (Kenya?) she would go for a run in the morning. She could never figure out how the Kenyans got any exercise - the streets were always empty. Then one time for some reason she got up early (like it was still the middle of the night, pitch dark) and the streets were packed with runners!

Hope you don't have to resort to such extremes...!
