The obese triathalete

Monday, September 03, 2012

My name is Chiara, and I am NOT a runner, and I HATE to exercise, and I recently lost 125 lbs but still have a BMI of 32.

All that being said I have been told lately that I am an athlete. I was shocked and dismayed. I don't think of myself as one.

However, I recently signed up for my first race of any kind. It was a duathalon, 1/4 mile swim and a 5K. I did it in 1:06 min. I came in DEAD last. the race was over before I got out of the pool. (I was in the last wave.)

The awards and party was over before I crossed the finish line, but as you can see above, I did FINISH!!!

Which made me think, maybe I could run a 5K, we will see. (I walked, jogged, walked the duathalon) I have my first 5K on Sept 15th.

Then I said well I need something to get me off the couch and in the gym for Oct, so I found a sprint triathlon. And I am now training for it.

So, this blog will chronicle my attempts to be an athlete and run / swim / bike races as an obese person.

You are welcome to come join the daily discussion on the swimming for cardio and get to know the regulars that show up there. It's a great place to get support and it's a happy place!
