Cleaning like a mad woman!!

Monday, September 03, 2012

Well, today is the last day of summer and I have so much to do. I don't know about anyone else, but I have what I lovingly refer to now as "Mt. Washmore" heaped in my laundry room. It can acutally be dangerous to climb at times to get to the washing machine! But, the really cool thing about doing all of the laundry at once is that my kid's feel like they have a whole new wardrobe again! So, I am going to get it all done today. I would like to get the clothes actually put away nicely, otherwise, they seem to meander back into the laundry room even though they were never worn! I would also like to get my house cleaned up all sparkly cuz it just makes me feel so much more organized and clears my mind of clutter too. I already have meals planned through Friday too....miracles do happen! So, on that note I am going to go and clean some room in my house. I usually start with the kitchen, but today I think I will change it up. I like to time myself too....I either set the microwave timer and race it, or I like to go by songs. Makes it so much more enjoyable for some reason. Well folks, enjoy the day!

I agree that it's so much easier to function when things are clean and orderly.

With my boys, I clear out the closets and drawers while there is a huge mountain of laundry and as a load is washed I separate those items that are questionable (might not fit, they don't appear to like, is too worn out)... Then when that pile is big enough I have the boys help decide if they want to keep or donate. Then I put away the clean clothes neatly and explain how I expect them to keep the drawers and closet neat. I do this about twice a year (summer and winter) for sure with all of us and then if one child has a major growth spurt as needed.

I have already done the boys because we started school two weeks ago. I do have two rooms full of junk I need to sort through, plus my room is a mess. I think I'll set my timer too.

Love the idea of setting a timer..or by certain songs..that would keep me on task!
and I probably wouldn't sit down and read/write on Spark when I should be doing laundry, defrosting the freezer..which I came downstairs to do..and here I am still on the computer! aarggh..

have fun cleaning..I'm about to start myself... need to sign off...
