This is the first day of vacation with no shopping, had a great and very exciting day anyway! Went to visit an old friend and her hubby. They have a pub built into their basement, just like the old English pubs were when I was there on vacation ages ago. He used to be an actor and is quite the character, one of the most interesting people I know .... and he is 90 years old! No, really, he is, and he knows everything about everything and what a great life history he has. I just love listening and talking to him.
Sat down there chatting and catching up, which was great, until the earthquake hit! No, I am NOT kidding, it was a 3.6 and shook the house. My friend said it felt like something hit her in the back, I felt the floor move and the couch shake. The windows rattled and so did the glasses hung over the bar! There is always talk of a big earthquake hitting here as it is the middle of the fault line from California up the coast to where I am, Victoria, B.C. (Canada)
It was a bit scary, my first experience with such a thing. I kept thinking about other earthquakes featured on the news and how they get smaller ones prior to a big one and it should be taken as a possible warning .... EEKS! Not enough EEKS to make me cut my holiday short, but it was something I thought about, I tell ya.
Today we are heading south on the island to my favorite little town, Sidney. It is right on the ocean front, beautiful blue water and lovely beaches with restaurants and flowers all the way along it. It has the neatest little shops ever, full of unusual items and items of local artists. This island is known for it's artists, and the well known people in their craft. You will find painters, sketchers, sculptors, wood workers, Canadian Indian art and jewellery, and authors here. Their wares are everywhere, it is amazing. No two items is ever alike, and although sometimes pricey, the stuff is nothing that you can find in other areas of Canada (or the USA).
Ya just gotta come see it all ......... before the big earthquake that is !!! (I may not sleep tonight!)
