Mowing grass is hazardous to my health

Sunday, August 26, 2012

Last week I was out back mowing grass when I felt this sting on my left thigh. I looked down and a wasp was stuck on my pants after stinging me. I wear a light weight Danskin sweat pants working out in the yard and the stinger went right through them into my thigh. I went in the house and made a paste of baking soda and water and put over the sting to draw the stinger out. Went back out and finished mowing with no more problems.

Today I am out back mowing when I feel a sting on my right thigh. I look down and there are 3 wasp's stuck to my pants, stinging me. I smash them off and go in the house to make a paste again to get the stingers out. I went back outside and I found the nest. They had made their nest in the ground by my mom's wishing well. There is a border around the wishing well made of landscape timbers and in the join of 2 of the timbers is where the entrance to the nest is. I saw them flying around it so I kept my distance. When I bumped the timbers mowing I disturbed them and they stung me. So thankful that I am not allergic to bee stings. I have 3 nice little welts on my leg from them and they still burn but will be fine in a day or so. I will definitly have to get rid of the nest, I don't need the dogs or my great nephews to get stung if they are outside playing.

Oh good grief! You are very calm about it. I got badly stung by wasps as a child, so get very very nervous if they are anywhere near me. I'm fine with bees, but don't trust wasps at all. :-)
