I'm sleeping the weight off

Monday, August 20, 2012

Yes, that's right, I'm losing weight in my sleep. Or rather, I'm finally sleeping so I'm finally losing weight. It turns out that inadequate sleep will completely stall weight loss and sometimes make you GAIN weight even if you are doing everything right. And I have been doing everything right for months with no reward, however I have been sleeping horribly for a couple of years now. So my doc said, "Take some Valerian Root before you go to bed." I actually take that plus a Melatonin and it knocks me out nicely. I'm sleeping and getting skinny at the same time!

Over the past 9 months I have been doing my job as the owner of this body even without the satisfaction of scale results because I knew it was the right thing to do. I've been improving my food thought processes and cleaning out my mental hang-up closet. I fit in a little exercise when I can. I have trained my body to not require sugar or bread. I avoid the starches without really thinking about it. I'm generally stripping away the layers of processed, man-made, artificially sweetened, preservative-laced "food products" to find my delicious meals of meat, veggies, fruit, dairy, nuts, and seeds - and Surprise! - food tastes great and does lovely things for you when you eat it closer to the way God made it.

But I digress. My point is, I feel like an athlete (I may be struck by lightning for saying that phrase) who has been training for ages and finally gets to run the race. I'm off the bench. I'm in the game. It's on like Donkey Kong. Sleeping was the key I needed to finally unlock my fat door and it seems to be wide open now.

So I'd like to throw this out there for all the SP peeps who feel like they are doing everything right (and your food log proves it) but not getting any results. How are you sleeping? Is it restful or fitful? Do you wake up refreshed or dying for coffee? It might be the one thing you HAVEN'T changed and it's holding you back like a 100 lb anchor. Or my butt, which could be easily confused with a 100 lb anchor. (But not for long, because I'm finally sleeping!!!!!)

My husband and I have been talking about this, and are trying to get some more sleep. I also do not sleep well, between my dog, my husband and my having to get up at night, and my worries, I hardly ever sleep through the night. We also tend to be night owls. So for the past week, we have been trying to get to bed earlier, and not drink as much water in the evening. I am only weighing myself twice a month, so I will let you know in a couple of weeks, how I make out!!!! I am hoping this is the piece of the puzzle!!
