Trying to Start Running

Saturday, August 18, 2012

While up at the cottage I try to walk for about 2 hours a day. In order to add some variety to my routine, I've started to add some running to my program. I've never been a runner probably because I've had extra weight to carry around. But today out of the 2 hours I managed to run for 60 minutes (not fast mind you!). The length of time I ran ranged from 5 to 17 minutes in between the walking. I'm starting to think about possibly walking / running a 5k, we'll see. I'm very pround of what I've been able to accomplish so far and I'm sure my weight loss has made it much easier to run.

That is how you do it Great job! There are some excellent guides, I recommend couch potato to 5k, just google it, and the training is exactly like what you describe, times of walking, times of jogging, until you are finally jogging more than you are walking and then you have done it! Remember to have really good shoes, they really make a difference! I have done several 5k's and a half marathon, yep, this non-running individual has become a runner...and I started with much less training than you have done! Way to go!

Excellent job! In addition to adding variety to your daily exercising, running will allow you to burn more calories so make sure you stay hydrated and allow yourself some extra calories on the days you do run.
