The Lapland is a tool but we have other tools.

Thursday, August 16, 2012

They all say that the Lapband is a tool. I think it is true. But my experience has shown me that we need other tools also. They are exercise tools, mindful eating tools. So The biggest tool to use is the head tool. Because with out that nothing works. emoticon

I wanted to add that I had weight loss surgery 2/2/10. I was 62 years old. And I didn't see another way out. I exercise everyday and that has become a lifestyle for me. I use my head tool everyday to get everything started. I have been extremely successful with my lapband surgery and honestly recommend it to anyone who would ask.

So happy things are working out for you with the lapband tool. Dr. Oz just had a show on this. People all said it was not magic. You still have to govern yourself. Chris emoticon

Here, here!! Making good choices, planning ahead, keeping our head in the game when we are faced with challenges make all the difference in the world. Cheers to you and the great success you have accomplished - and continue to accomplish!

Well said Ilene! We are fortunate to have the band to help keep us mindful of what we are putting into our bodies and how much. Yes, we can cheat the band very easy. But that's where the head tool comes into the equation. We have to exercise and eat right just like everyone else.

It's a TOOL, not a "GET OUT OF THE FAT FARM" for Free card!

Hi Ilene--You're right the brain is a powerful thing when trying to do anything.

The leptin hormone and the brain are linked together and until we get our leptin hormone under control by eating the right foods, our brain tool will sometimes get in the way because it's not working right. As long as our leptin is out of whack, we will almost always be in a battle with our brain tool over eating.

What's great is that mind/head hunger and cravings can be controlled and eliminated by controlling the leptin hormone which sends messages to the brain for us to eat.

When we are leptin sensitive, our brain tool is given the signal that we have satiety and don't need to eat. When that happens we can stay in control and continue our journeys.

So the real truth is that it's not the head that's the tool, it's the leptin hormone that is the tool because the brain will not be in the game until the leptin hormone tells it to be.
    hugs, p

The mind is the most overlooked tool we have.

When I quit smoking I used a patch. It also was a tool. Did it make my quitting a cinch? No. It HELPED but it didn't ACCOMPLISH. It still took sheer determination and a lot of time to really quit.

Good for you for using every tool you can to reach success!

I go to lapband support meetings every month as a support person to my bff who had the lapband 3 years ago now - she's lost a bit over 100# and has done really well, but.... she still fights the mental urge part of it and said one thing the lapband was good for was that she physically had to stop after small amounts of food, as she said.. like a governor on a car/truck - it only allows you to go so much..

She started out before the surgery at 289#, has struggled with weight as long as I've known her (over 40 years) and this has been a true blessing to her. She's had a full hip replacement and a full knee replacement since then, which would have not been possible until after she had the surgery.

While it's not for me, it certainly was the "tool" for her and I'm so very proud of her for what she has accomplished. I'm not going to even say she took the easy way because I KNOW for a fact, that it is NOT easy, even with the lapband in place.

You are right about that, the mind is where it starts and ends. I don't believe in weight loss surgery, because in the end exercise and healthy eating are a necessity.
