Sun + No water=No bueno

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Oh man this weekend was full--full of fun, water, SUN. It's been crazy sunny and hot here in Seattle. I spend much of my time at my friend's house on Lake Sammamish in the sun. I had a blast, BUT, I did not take care of myself--basically I didn't drink any water. I had my yummy hard cider, I had wine, and every once in awhile I had a sip of water but definitely didn't stay hydrated. Monday I had the day off, tried to drink water but didn't get anywhere close to the 100 oz I drink on a day where I'm not in the scorching heat. I didn't really eat well this weekend--not a lot of fruits/veggies/whole meals--a lot of snacking.

So, today. Today was a run day for me. I woke up and was feeling idgy, but I went out anyway. I started to run, and while I pushed myself and felt like it was a pretty great run, when I got home, I was light headed, my body felt extremely heavy and lethargic, and I couldn't stand up without feeling dizzy. No bueno. I sipped some water and passed out, but I'm realizing how dehydration and bad nutrients made me feel terrible--and definitely did not fuel me for my exercise. So, lesson learned. Drinking my water, eating balanced foods, and getting my rest today.

We forget sometimes just how much we need water, especially in this heatwave we are having right now in Seattle. I live in Kent, just south of the airport. Nice to know I'm not the only one in town suffering from the heat. I have my big water bottle next to me and am doing my best to stay wet and comfortable. Take care and be nice to yourself! Drink water! emoticon
