1 year under 300 pounds...

Monday, August 13, 2012

Things have been hard over the past couple weeks so I have chosen to blog about one of the things I am most proud of. On August 12th 2011 I hit 299 pounds. This was my first time under 300 pounds since 1995. I had gotten close before in 1999 I had gotten down to 310. In 2005 and 2008 I had reached the 320 mark. But in 2008 before hitting 327 later that fall I had gotten over 378 pounds. I didn't weigh myself before I started working out so I was probably over 380 pounds. It has been a hard battle losing over 110 pounds.

Even though in this past year I am only 33 pounds lighter right now from The 299 I hit last august it has been a pretty great year. In 1995 I was 20 years old so I have spent all of my 20's and half of my 30's over 300 pounds. So this past year has been very liberating have that great weight off my shoulders. Here is a brief list of what I have accomplished in this last year.

- Completed two 5k's
- Have completely stopped shopping in Big & Tall sections
- Have walked/jogged over 150 miles outside
- I can wear the same size Jeans I wore when I was 18
- I don't need an extension for the seat belt on a plane
- I have jogged under a 14 minute mile
- I can do 30 minutes on the stair climber at level 6 ( couldn't finish 5 on level 1 when I started)
- I can walk on vacation and not get tired
- I like my body a lot more now
- I love strength training
- I really like jogging (never would have thought that)
- I have been asked to speak about health and fitness
- I have inspired friends and family to lose weight and get healthy
- I can wear Large size sweatpants/shorts/swim trunks
- I can do hand stand pushups
- I have under 27% body fat (from 44%)

So even with recent happening I have to look back and see I have had one hell of a year. I have really been able to enjoy my life with weight not being the number one thing on my mind. I have definitely slowed down and even have stumbled a bit lately but I know I can do this and get to where I want to be. I am refocusing and moving full speed ahead. I am enjoying life like I have not been able to before. Even though it's frustrating not to hit goals when you want to. it is liberating and humbling to be further than you really imagined when you started out.

I want to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes over the past couple weeks. It has meant a ton to me. I really appreciate all the support it has made a world of difference. I couldn't have had such a fantastic year if it wasn't for all the people here. Love you guys!!!

Here are some pics from the last year.
