Long time no write

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

I just checked my last blog entry and it was November 2009. I am shocked. Time seems to fly by so fast.
..I have been away from SP but have come back. In my absence I continued to struggle with my weight loss though I have managed through some other methods including occasional Dukan Diet, increased exercise, drinking more water, to get my weight down. Within the last 6 months I got down to 168 which was my low for many years. But work stress and not paying attention, as well as feeling the restrictions of a proscriptive non-SP "diet" didn't help and rather hurt. It made me want to binge on foods that I knew were not the best choices, or eat unlimited quantities of "approved" foods that were not actually so good for me including lots of meat. Though I did learn some good ideas like non fat plain Greek yogurt - my lifesaver!
...So today was a great. I was on the verge of trying yet another 'fix' and go sign up for hundreds of dollars of support from Dr. Bernstein program. But my husband, the voice of reason, last night encouraged me to rethink it and reminded me how I have enjoyed SP in the past and actually had some good results. I remembered that SP is free, full of great tools, and has tons of support. I also would like to reconnect with my Spark Friends and be more involved in blogging and other group activities
...So thank you to Spark People staff, my Spark Friends who have continued to post in my absence, and thank you to all the other SP contributors who make this such a great site.
...Tonight I actually had fun shopping for groceries. I bought whatever I wanted, knowing that if I continue to exercise (I have been walking and swimming) and track my food, keeping within the guidelines set by SP to help me meet my next goal of 169 by August 20, there is an excellent chance I will meet my goal.
..I had put off an annual comprehensive medical exam, a benefit from my employer, that I should have had done after Christmas... I was hesitating because the last time I was there I weighed 192 and they set an initial target of 170 for me... and while I hit it I was too busy at work to book the appointment then ate my way back up ten pounds. So now I am determined to do the best I can to reach that go for August 20, and it is possible.
