I must do this

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

I am not sure if this will help or not but I have had a friend and trainer tell me something like this…. She uses positive reinforcement like your worth it, look at how far you have come and all the things you need to feel motivated. When a person truly gets stuck like I was and sounds like you maybe too, she flips to a gently form of the negative reinforcement to create the fight response. I have seen Jillian Michaels do this in gentle and not so gently ways. Here are a few I use on myself that really tap into my passion for better health.

I must do this because if I don’t ……
I will continue to sit on the sidelines of my life
I will be embarssed when I run into people because I know I am heavier than the last time they saw me
I will live in self doubt
I will be a victim forever
I will always be labeled obese

I know I am strong and better than that. I will fight.

I read some place that we are either motivated to react 'towards' something or 'away' from something. However many of us act when we fear losing something. That would be 'away' from motivation.

I like to use both, but mostly I visualize what I want to become. Then, it works both ways; I'm motivated to go towards my goal, but I'm also fearful of letting myself down.

    What ever works, right?

Are you ok? I"m missing you and the QOTD on the TOPS team.

Hi ~ I just ran across your blog and it fits me so well. Thanks for posting. Mine is the one of being embarassed. I isolate myself because I don't want people to see me. Thanks again for your post. Best wishes to you on the second half of your journey to goal. You have much to be proud of how far you have come in your weight loss. emoticon
