Hand-me-downs... an NSV to smile about!

Monday, August 06, 2012

Since I have two daughters, we save all the older one's clothes for the little one. Tiny D gets to go through the clothes, keeping the ones she likes, and we donate the rest. We just went through the clothing box that was Tiny D's current size, and so I had some shifting of boxes to do.

As I got into the most recent box from Bigger D, I noticed that her outgrown clothes were all from Old Navy, sizes small, 4 and 6. Umm... could I wear these??? Piece after piece, I tried on my daughter's clothes, and ran screaming into her room saying "ohmygosh ithinkitlooksok!!! Does it???" Piece after piece, Bigger D said, "yeah mom, that is cute on you!"

I just got hand-me-downs from my daughter.

Just to be clear, Bigger D is bigger than me. She has been for a while, but until now, we were in the same size. She's 5'9", and I'm 5'2", so we SHOULDN'T be the same size. Well, now we aren't, and I'm smiling in NSV-land!

Plus, new clothes, so SCORE!

Maintenance is going well. I just have to keep finding these NSV's, so I don't miss the thrill of the scale. I can DO it!

Wow that's great! I am 5'7" now. I believe my mom is probably around 5'. I remember wearing the same shoes as her in 3rd grade. I didn't try on her clothes because I was so young, but they probably would've fit. I bet it's a nice feeling being able to get handed down new clothes. I was the oldest and by far the biggest person in my family so no sharing clothes for me :( At least now i get to discover new clothes from when i was skinnier before lol

Love it, love it, love it! I can wear a lot of my girls' shirts (their tiny hipped pants are a different story) and that moment of realization was one of my favorite NSVs yet so I completely share your excitement. (Perhaps) unfortunately for me, my girls are 5'2" and 5'3" and I'm a whopping 5'4". This means they can wear my clothes as well. And frequently do. But I guess turn about is fair play and all. Sigh. Girls.

    Congrats, you buff, thin mama.

That's fantastic!!! It's wonderful that you can share the joy. : )

I have to be really careful because my daughter and I are about the same height, and because she gained some weight while on meds, she has been really self-conscious. I don't dare suggest we wear the same size. I think she'll get past it, though. She's already taken off most of what she gained, which was probably about 15 pounds and looks fabulous, which I remind her of often.

Last night I found a pack of size 6 underwear I had bought her a few years ago and forgot about. Well, she's not getting them now! :D :D :D I *need* new underwear!
