Six years of SP and I finally hit 10k points!

Sunday, August 05, 2012

That was cool. I've been on SP for years but only just started really using it this year, and hitting 10k points made me excited to keep going. I want to get my next trophy!

Getting all those points wasn't just to get the points, though. It was about me changing my outlook on my body, habits, choices, and priorities. Yes, it has taken me 6 years to do it, but I've finally figured out how this is supposed to work. It isn't about your point total, but really about how consistently you make good choices. The points are just a numerical representation of how well you follow your program, whatever it is, and how much you learn along the way.

I know there are lots of ways to get points that don't require you to watch your food or exercise. But those ways still require you to be here and to face your goals everyday. You can read all the articles ever written for points and never lift a finger to work out, but you will still come away with a wealth of information. And some of it is bound to sink in!

In all honesty, that's how I got a lot of my points for a long time, so I know how to work the system. And that's also why it's taken me 6 years, about 10 re-starts, and a lot of failure to get to 10,000. I was in denial for so long. I never fully accepted MY SHARE of the responsibility for getting in shape, which it turns out is all of it. Hitting 10k means so much more to me now than it would have a year ago when I didn't value myself nearly as much. I'm finally walking the talk and it feels great to see that milestone represent that.

So thanks SP. It was the right boost and encouragement at the right time for all the right reasons. It took me 6 years to get the first 10,000 points, but I'm going to try to get the next 10,000 by the end of this year. Let me rephrase that, I EXPECT MYSELF TO EARN the next 10,000 points by the end of the year. I may even have a little celebration then. And I expect myself to look damn sexy in the dress I buy along with the real trophy I have made when it happens!
