Exercise therapy ROCKS!

I've had a few injuries that have kept me from working out, and some days, I really feel ouchy after I do my workout. I've been feeling, for quite some time that I just don't know how to carry my body. It has gotten to the point that I started to realize that I don't have the first clue about how to use my body in a healthy way. My dynamics are all off!

My husband's best friend is a licensed massage therapist. He actually teaches at a really great school, and so for years, he'd do bodywork for free on me here and there. He also knows a lot of people who do all sorts of physical therapy. Well, he wound up giving my husband 5-1 hour gift coupons for a woman who specializes in exercise therapy and body dynamics, but my husband didn't use them. Guess who got 'em???

ME!!!!!

Yesterday, the therapist came to my house to watch me work out and do some "daily life" stuff. It turns out I've been using the wrong muscles on many parts of my workouts, INCLUDING stretches. It is hilarious! All these years, I'd do what the people on my DVD's did, and think, but that stretch doesn't even hurt! I must be terribly flexible. Well, I am, BUT...

S (the therapist) pushed my parts ever so slightly this way and that, and DAYUM!!! THAT is is how you stretch! I can still feel it today, and I have all these cool things that will make my workouts safer and better.

We also discovered that... dun dun DUN... I a missing a muscle in my leg. Well, not missing really, but my brain doesn't know how to make it contract, so it has never gotten strong. (I forgot the name of it, but I'll look it up later.) What this means is exciting - apparently, this issue may be the cause of many of my problems... my lower back injuries and knee pain. S also said it is likely one of the reasons that my soaz is so tight. I'm working to teach my brain to fire this muscle, and hopefully, that will work.

I get four more sessions, and I can't wait! The next one is an intense bodywork session. :) YUM!!!!

    Go to the library and see if they have this book; I follow the stretches w/roller and tennis balls to help with lower back etc and it works well. PT recommended this author

    Wow - I didn't even know that was something people did... sounds incredibly helpful for longterm painfree living. Maybe i should look into similar things.

    Food for thought: yes you have 5 sessions. But if she is being that useful, perhaps worth continuing the contract...maybe 1 per month for maintenance?
