Looking for Some Variety

Thursday, August 02, 2012

I don't mean in my work out but in the people I associate with. I will say that my facebook page has been littered with tons of sweet posts about God, pets, and babies. I love all these things as well but I can see how people become close minded. I find myself wanting to see variety in different points of view and wanting to post status' to that effect, but I am also worried about the backlash I would receive.

So where are all the wonderful subcultures? Where are the lesbian, gay, bi communities? Where are the Bhuddist and atheist? Where are the bleeding heart liberals? Where are the extreme nerds?

I am so tired of reading the same rehashed messages "God loves you." "Be kind to animals" "Abortions are murder" "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" "Breastfeeding is best" These are all very valid messages but there are so many more issues to explore and positive messages to share.

I myself am a "traditional" conservative mother and wife with "traditional" values. I do believe that it is so very important that people from all different points of view continually learn and share their opinions. We can all learn and grow from better understanding our fellow man. It is a tricky topic though because too often people are not understanding of any view but their own, and are often very judgemental, and eager to turn an insightful conversation into a confrontation.

*sigh* I guess I just want to see the world through some one else' point of view. The rose colored conservative glasses can get quite dull and boring and seems like everyone is wearing them right now.

Well, you could either search for a group on facebook or a group on Sparkpeople that fits one of your mind-expansion areas. Perhaps there's an SP group called "Atheists with X Lbs to Lose" or "Rainbow Sparkers"!
