Thank you FlyLady

Monday, July 30, 2012

Now that the no-work and all-fun part of my summer vacation is over, I've been using one of my other fave websites to help me get back into the groove and stay focused. My aunt passed it on to my mother and me and we have been using it off and on for years to develop routines and eliminate CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) from our lives!

It can be a bit cheesy, and I don't follow everything down to the last detail, but it has helped me to regain control of the clutter and dirt in my house and create the sort of environment that keeps me upbeat, motivated and goal-oriented. Now that my housekeeping routines are falling into place, my exercise and thesis schedules are easier to stick to.

Getting the housekeeping under control and decluttering both the office and the clothes closet are key, not just for my sanity, but also pending our move to the new house when it is finished in December. I want to purge as much stuff as I can and get my routines down pat so that when I have a much bigger home with a yard to clean I won't be overwhelmed.

I have 5 weeks left before I return to work September 3rd. 5 weeks to get my housekeeping routine to the point where it is automatic, 5 weeks to develop and stick to a workout routine and 5 weeks to get the bulk of the thesis written and organized. GO GO GO!!!

Keep focused, you can do it and remember, dust falls in on itself and only gets so thick, so you can ignore it lol.

I've been checking out FlyLady too - I don't follow all guidelines to the letter (I STRONGLY despise lacing shoes for good reasons - I DO dress to shoes ASAP, just not the lacing type on most days), and I've come to the conclusion that, according to some of the things I've read, I'm not in as bad shape as I've feared.......but since I do believe in the concept of being a "work in progress" and keeping an open mind, I have found some of their ideas useful and incorporated a few to some extent.......

I still use some of the concepts I learned from FlyLady - it is a great site and 15 min cleans have saved my house on many days when I just couldn't think of cleaning but in 15 mins at a go the whole house ended up cleans in just an hour or two.

It is the small changes that make big changes in our lives. I'm in the process of packing my house up for a move and I have been using the same idea that a little bit each day and deep cleaning as I go will save me on move day which is just a little over three weeks away. AHH

Heh, I used to do FlyLady too, and I do remember the cheesiness, but it did help me enourmously with the cleaning routines. Maybe I'll check it out again, just for fun, cause the flat I live in now is so tiny there is simply no space for clutter and cleaning gets done in a breeze.
