Relief or Nausea

I'm not sure which is that feeling in the pit of my stomach. I have been talking about doing a triathlon for years and I have been training hard for 6 weeks now, but hadn't signed up for an actual race until now. I just signed up for the YWCA Women's Triathlon. It's doesn't say it is a sprint, but it pretty much is: 500 yard swim/ 15.5 mile bike and 5K run. Why they measure the swim and the bike in the American yards and miles, I don't know, but that translates to about a 450M swim and a 25K bike ride. I'm pretty sure I can handle that no problem, especially since I have been training with 2-3 times the swim distance. And it is with all women, so maybe I will feel less self conscious and more camaraderie.

I also signed up for an open water swim clinic and a pre race swim preview through them to make me feel more comfortable in the open water. The swim clinic is tomorrow!

So I feel relieved, I guess, and glad that I finally committed, but I must admit, I feel kinda sick about it too. I figure this is a good way to get my feet wet (pun intended) and get me ready for the olympic distance that I have been training for. If all goes well, I'll do the Dare to Tri in August or if I feel I need more training, I'll do the One Last Tri in September.

    Great! That is a great motivator, signing up for the race. Talk to some experienced tri-athletes. I am sure there has to be a team on SparkPeople!

    I just checked and saw you had joined a team. Ask some questions in the forum. There will be lots of people willing to help you!

    Great job committing to a race. My nerves were staggering the week before my first tri, which was my first ever organized event. Believe in yourself!

    You'll be cool - you've done the training, you've got yourself ready, now all you need to do is get out there and have as much fun as possible with the event! I'm really impressed - you've encouraged me to look at events that I might like to do, and actually book something in the calendar so I have a goal to work towards.
