Fitness Week begins

For my birthday this year I decided I wanted a babysitter for 5 days in a row so I could have a fitness week (ok, it's just the weekdays). I wanted to try new things. Rock Climbing. Fencing. Rowing (in a sculling boat). And I wanted to have a nice hike without someone whining to me that he wanted to be "all done."

Well, I've worked HARD to set up things this week, it's been tricky and some details just came together as late as an hour ago (Monday night). And there's still one item to set up. And one fell through. But, I'm going to have my plan B's ready.

So today I started not only fitness week, but my period. And, yes, the accompanying aura then migraine. Lovely. But I'm using my new energy band red dot and Advil and I WILL get through fitness week despite my unforseen challenges (all this should have happened 4-5 days ago, putting me at the end of this, not the beginning).

But I still did my plan today. Started by getting my car cleaned and waxed (yes, this is important for my fitness, believe me!). Then took a Rock Climbing lesson. Um, rock climbing is HARD. Especially when you're carrying an additional 40-50 lb. My arms are still trembling many hours later. But I made it up the 35' walls 5-6 top-rope routes. They were all "easy" routes, but didn't feel like it to me! I did not do well with bouldering.

After, it would have been easy to call it a day. I was wiped. But I reminded myself that this is fit week. I'm supposed to feel well worn! So I waited until my arms could drive again, and drove the few miles to the gym, and did the elliptical for 35 minutes and the treadmill for 10 or 15.

In the next hour or so, we will take our son out for a bike ride which involves us running to keep up with him while he learns how to ride. He's fast, but a little shaky still. So...more exercise before bed!

I've eaten well today. Responsibly. I'm hungry, though. But I'm going to do my utmost to eat clean all week!

Tomorrow - a long hike with a friend. It was supposed to be longer, but even though I asked her about this 3 weeks ago, she just got around to arranging a sitter last night, and couldn't get one in time to make it a day hike. So it'll be a 2.5 hour hike. So I put plan B into place.

In the morning I will go to the gym, then in the late afternoon we'll have our hike. It should be nice visiting with a friend (something I rarely get to do alone).

I'll try and check in again tomorrow night to report on how it went, and what I have planned for Wednesday.
