8th time going, 1st time in control

Every year I go camping in July with a bunch of people for 4 days. Every year it has been a food-fest with more than any one person should have access to, plus we tend to drink the whole time, too. I have always felt gross when I get home - overstuffed, dehydrated, and lacking more nutrients than McDonald's.

This year I decided I would control myself and come home with no regrets. I always used a smaller plate and only took a little bit of each thing, and I was selective of what I did eat. If I wanted more, I waited a while before getting up and usually it was either gone by then or I was fine with just a few bites more.

While everyone had Bloody Marys in the morning I had water and Crystal Light. Everyone had s'mores and I had one little square of chocolate instead. Everyone had muffins with their breakfasts and I skipped them. I got extra veggies with each meal so I could fill my plate with those and not have room for pasta salad. All in all, it worked pretty dang well.

Best of all, I never ate until I couldn't fit another bite. Not once. That's always been by downfall with food - quantity. I love the process of eating, the tastes, the chewing and swallowing, it's all so satisfying. But now I have the satisfaction of knowing I actively decided how much I ate and that feels way better than eating. Now that I've done it under the harshest of conditions, I have something to remind myself with and I feel even stronger moving forward. I'd say it was a fantastic weekend!

I am using your techniques in my striving for control of my eating too. I am unemployed so I'm home all day where I could be grazing.

    Hope you stay in control!
