A quick synopsis of my AWOL adventure

Monday, July 23, 2012

I'm not going to get too deeply into the details, because I'd be typing a novel, but quickly stated, I needed a break. Not from eating well and exercising, but from SP in general. I hit a point with this website wherein I was spending 1-3 hours every day on this site, and it was cutting too deeply into my family/social/professional life. It stopped being fun and turned into a chore. SOOO...I took a break. It was only supposed to be for a month, but when my month ended, I still wasn't ready to come back, so I decided to take another. THEN...I hurt my knee (medial collateral ligament in my l. knee, torque injury), and had to spend a month in a brace, which kind of KO'ed the exercise for a while. It is feeling TONS better now...but I'm still babying it because I REALLY did not enjoy my month off from the gym and don't want to repeat it any time soon! I have found myself struggling a bit with my diet in the last few weeks, and decided that I'm ready to hit a "refresher course" on SP...I mostly need to get back into the habit of tracking my food because my one-off days have been turning into the norm in the last couple of weeks!!

Milestones during my Spark Break:

--I was able to keep up my healthy diet goals without tracking food for almost three months!
--I lost another 15lbs. during the break!
--I figured out that it is too soon to be so deeply into strength training...I'm now pretty sure that this is what was holding up my weight loss for all of those months. Taking a forced break from it has only reinforced this idea.
--The summer break has torpedoed my normal gym schedule (even after recovering from the knee thing) which has made me realize (AGAIN) that I need to stop being so regimented in my schedules...the variety/chaos seems to be working much better for me right now!
--I've had to learn to enjoy Zumba and Cardio Dance because I can make those workouts super low impact...and they are not as terrible as I thought they were. :)

I'm sure there is more, but this is what I can think of for right now. So for the next month...I just want to try to track my food everyday and hit the gym when I can!

Glad to see you back. Really missed you and your insights. Hopefully you have now found the balance that works for you (totally get the time sucking part of this site... time to rule web, not the other way around).

Your break went better than mine - congrats on the continuing weight loss!

And I love your motto - "You don't have to be pretty, fast, or perfect - just finish."

I'm happy to hear from you! And the news are good, which is even better!
I totally understand the need for a break. That's pretty much why I'm less active during the summer too. And I stopped using the Food tracker too and I feel more free!
    I'm glad you're back!
