Week 1 Day 1 - 5K Your Way Rookie Running Training Program

Yesterday, I tracked my first day of the "5K Your Way Rookie Running Training Program" www.sparkpeople.c
I knew that I was starting a new challenge. I haven't ran for the sake of running since I was in highschool. But it was rather disappointing to find that I found running for one minute had me puffing and panting almost through the whole of the next cycle of four minutes walking!
On the positive side, I have found something that I can't do - yet!
To be truthful, my first walk/run was not a RWP (Run Without Purpose), that is, it took two cycles of walk for four minutes and run for 1 minute to get to the shops. I bought what I needed (mint, coriander, celery) and more (whole bunch of celery rather than one stick and a bunch of bananas). So my back pack was a little heavier than I expected. It took one cycle of walk for four minutes and run for 1 minute to the butchers meaning to only get 250g of pork mince. I ended up with a a whole kilo of mince. Anyway, into the backpack, and walked and ran the walk/run cycle home.
I was beaming that I had achieved my first day of the training program. But my feet hurt.
I knew that my shoes were not suitable for the program, but I want/wanted to try running before spending money on 'the' appropriate shoes. Is it possible that four repetitions of one minute of running would cause such pain?
My feet still hurt today, but tomorrow I'll attempt another walk and run to and from the fish shop. If my feet don't get worse, I'll go and get some running shoes. If the pain does get worse, then I'll go and see the podiatrist before I continue.
Other than the feet, the exertion was manageable and I'm looking forward to running some more. I like the beaming feeling
