Weather shouldn't be an excuse

Friday, July 20, 2012

Its hard to get up in the morning, look out the window and not have the weather make some sort of impact on you. For me the cold is especially hard because just sticking my pinky toe from under the cover has me in a miserable mood.

I'm really happy that despite this strange weather in the summer, the coldness this morning did not stop me from making it to the gym. It poured while I got ready, on my way there and after I was done as well. I reflected about how many times before I had just wrote off working out due to the weather, but I can't do that anymore. Although its nice to have what we all think is a "good excuse", we are only hurting ourselves in the long run.

From now on my mentality is to Just Do It! I go to school in upper state New York and its gets VERY COLD, starting right from the beginning of the fall. Which mean the snow comes early too. By taking on the small weather hurdles like drizzles and rain I'm hoping that the snow won't throw me off, come winter.

Good for you! I'll bet that made you feel even better on a rainy morning! (sorry I don't run in the rain, snow I can do if the streets aren't too slick)

Excellent! You are absolutely correct -- the weather has nothing to do with it! It's not like our gym equipment is in the parking lot, right? haha!

It was raining (not pouring) when I left the gym yesterday and I was thinking, wow, this feels good ... I think I appreciated the rain in a new way.

Good luck, keep doing what you're doing ... you ROCK!!!

One Sunday, I was on the beach causeway training for a race. I went out to my halfway point, turned and headed back, watching clouds chase me the whole way back. They caught me. The feeling that I got running in the rain was euphoric! When I came home I was drenched, but felt so good! The shower felt good too!
I'm all about NO EXCUSES and totally agree with you. Embrace what's coming and beat it to death! Thanks for sharing. Stay strong!
