Pounds and Inches

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Wow these last few months have been a whirl wind. I ran my first full marathon on June 17th and PR’d on a half marathon 17 days later. I am getting stronger, building endurance and having a blast doing it. This once couch potato ENJOYS exercising. Yep, I love it! Every once in a while I think back to a conversation I had with MARATHONCHICK76. She had overheard me talking about how I was struggling to lose weight. And that I was having a difficult time finding an exercise program I liked. I told her that I disliked the workout classes, because I am not coordinated enough, cycling hurts the tush and I can not afford a trainer. She looked at me and said “have you tried running” she even said it with a straight face. I asked her “Who will be chasing me and with what?” She basically said give it a try and if you don’t like it find something else. So I went home and downloaded a couch to 5k app on my iPhone. Let me just say the first two week were torture, but I stuck with it and know a year and a half later I can not imagine not running. So thanks to MARATHONCHICK76 for getting me started. It has been a great year and a half running. I met some awesome local ladies like KASHMIR and CMERUN29, they have become my running buddies. They have helped me through a lot. Thank you to all my running buddies for keeping me going and on this awesome running path.

As for my weight, my pounds lost have been minimal compared to others around me these last few months. I have even been told to try harder (as if I have not been trying.) The scale has been holding steady or barely moving down. I was starting to let these people get to me then, I found a photo of me from last year and a one from a few weeks ago. I put them side by side……..WOW!!!! What a difference! 27 lbs down and several inches gone.

I am proud of my accomplishments.

I will be looking at fueling my body better, so that I can drop some more of this weight to become a leaner and healthier running machine.

Congratulations on all you success - who cares if the scale is not moving!? You are making progress in many other areas. I would say setting a PR for a half marathon is worth way more than a few pounds on the scale.

I was so impressed with your ability to hold it all together this round. You are amazing!

Hopefully this comes across in the "positive" response...it certainly is what is intended. -- I've come to realize that health and strength are not really about a number on the scale. And I have to STOP comparing myself to others and find what I can do!

I think you are seeing that. Good luck in your ongoing journey of HEALTH and FITNESS!

What a huge difference 27 lbs will make. You look great! Plus just because the scale isn't moving doesn't mean you aren't making progress because your body is changing. Keep up the great work!

As to weight release being slow, pounds lost slowly, through healthy eating and exercise, STAY off!! You are making a lifestyle change, you aren't on a diet!! YAY YOU!! emoticon

I've watched you transform over the past year...and like I said on the trail the other night, those ankles have become down right tiny compared to what they were a year ago!
Can't wait to see what the next year brings to us both.
