The pool or Dance

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

I love to swim. It is my preferred exercise. But it seems like I seldom get to swim because my apartment complex pool isn't open. The pool is supposed to open at 10am everyday except Monday when it opens at noon. I only try to swim Tuesday thru Friday. Saturday and Sunday I know the chemicals will be off because maintenance doesn't work those days. I want to swim when the pool first opens at 10am for several reasons. One is because I have fair skin and burn fairly easily. In South Carolina the sun is too much in the afternoon for me to stay out that long even with sunscreen. Also, the pool has more people in the afternoon. I want to swim laps. In my experience that's hard to do with lots of people.

So this morning I went to swim and the pool was closed because maintenance hadn't gotten the chemicals right. Today is the 17th day of the month and I've been able to swim twice this month. It's not always because of maintenance. There's times I can't swim for personal reasons and sometimes the weather is bad. But there are too many days when I put sunscreen on and dress for the pool and walk over there and can't swim (nice run-on sentence). It's really frustrating.

So, what to do? Most of the time I do something in my apartment. Sometimes I do WATP, sometimes I just march in place while watching tv. Today I danced. I started by dancing to some of the videos from the July 4th dailySpark entry "7 Workout Songs to Celebrate Independence Day." Then I pulled up videos on YouTube and danced. I've started saving favorite songs from YouTube in my favorites. So today I danced to videos from John Mellancamp, Katy Perry, The Beach Boys, Switchfoot, Miranda Lambert, Pistol Annies, Sugarland, Josh Turner, Brooks & Dunn, and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Hopefully tomorrow I can swim. But I think I will check with the office before putting sunscreen on to see if the pool is ready. If it's not - then I guess I'll dance again. emoticon

Oh, I bet it does get really hot in the sun there in South Carolina! I know it can get hot here in Portland, Oregon, but you're in the South, so it's probably like hot to the 9th degree! Great that you have an alternative for when you can't swim!

I used to love to dance, but I guess I'm pretty bad at it. I quit when I had to go to the doctor for a twisted ankle. They said our floor must be too hard, and that I shouldn't try to dance on it. But it's great that you can do that! I had a rebounder for a while, but that hurt my feet too. I just have really sensitive feet, for some reason.

Maybe if you said something about how you burn so easily, and you'd really like it, they could open the pool earlier than that. Because people with fair skin are actually supposed to be seeking cover after 10 am. But none of the businesses seem to have taken notice of that, at least not very many.

MeltedGlass, that really made me laugh. No, I put the swim stuff away and changed into a sports bra and sleep shorts. On days when I know I'm not swimming I just stay in my sleep pants and add a sports bra to exercise.

I picture you shaking your stuff alone in your livingroom still wearing a swimsuit and using the towel like a dance pole. Haha... what a great way to burn some calories!
