To my spark friends!!!!!

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

First I wanted to let you all know I appreciate you all so very much! Your encouraging words help keep me focused and brighten my days!

I also wanted to tell you I have deleted a few of my blogs and pics due to some info I saw on the news about if the pic was taken from your phone some how the location of where you took it can be found. They actually picked a random person from facebook who did not have the privacy settings and found her home, where her kids go to daycare, where they play etc. At first I didn't think anything about this. I have my facebook set very very private....but then last night I started thinking oh my gosh I have spark that is available to anyone and everyone...I have nothing set private and have many pics of my family on there that were taken with my phone. So needless to say I now have removed all pics taken with my phone including the blogs that had pics from my phone on it. I just think I had too much private info out there for the public. I will still be sharing with all of you! i appreciate you guys!!!! Just wanted to let you know why there had been some changes...I will still add pics just none taken from my phone for the safety of my family! I may be overly cautious but its just how I feel!
Hope you all have an excellent week!!!
Keep sparkin!!!!!
:o)
Also I have been told that this info cannot be obtained through spark peoples site however I myself will continue to only post photos taken from my camera because I like I said am just overly cautious I guess when it comes to my family!!!! I did not post this to make anyone panic about their photos please do not think that....it was for myself and protecting my family and was just letting everyone know why blogs and pics were removed! It was and is a personal decision for myself to share less private info in such a public way and that's just it.
Thanks to my sp friends who understand!!!!

I totally get it! The thing to remember is that the internet isn't ever "safe". Protecting the kiddos is top priority!

that's why I also don't set the geographic location indicator on my camera. It's "OFF"

As everyone has said - better safe than sorry.

I hadn't heard that but I'm not surprised. I think you are doing the right thing. It is perfectly fine to protect your family, especially the babies.
Although I don't post anything from my phone, I will certainly pass this along to people I know that do this.
Thank you for being such a good and caring friiend to share this.
    Love and hugs!

You did the right thing and I would have done the same. The internet and social networks offers many great things yet at the same time there are too many people who take advantage of that (especially on facebook).
Thanks for posting this blog. emoticon

I don't see anything wrong with being cautious. I've had identity theft problems twice and I now no longer post even my husband or dog's name! Seriously. I see so many people who post the details of the children, vacations, etc, and it scares me. I missed the report about cell phone pics, but it's good to know so that I can pass it on to my own family (my brother is CONSTANTLY posting pics of his kids!).
I hope all's well otherwise! I don't know how you keep up with it all.
Big hugs to you for being such an amazing woman!

Anything can happen. In my opinion it's better to bit on the cautious side that just throw everything out there for anyone to have access to.

I just confirmed it by installing a Meta Data viewer in my browser. None of the images on SparkPeople blogs or photo galleries retain the meta data from the camera they were taken with. NO NEED TO PANIC! Please please please update your original blog with this info so you don't start some sort of panic all across SparkPeople where everyone starts deleting their photos for no reason.

For future reference, I don't think that could/would happen with the way photos are uploaded here on SparkPeople. Their upload actually converts your images, resizes them, renames them, and optimizes them to make the file size smaller, so I think any location meta info is likely stripped out. It's not even possible to upload photos directly from your phone on SparkPeople the way it is on FaceBook.

Oh my goodness I had no idea they could do that! People should really be made aware of their privacy settings...

I don't blame you at all Tracy!! That is so scary, and it's so sad that we live in a world where we need to consider these things! I'm glad you'll still be sharing, I always look forward to hearing what you have to say and how you are doing, but definitely understand your need to protect your adorable family!!

Wow, I guess it's not that unbelievable, but so crazy about how cautious we all need to be! I don't have a smartphone yet (I am trying to hold out as long as possible; I am one of those few people who only need a phone as a phone!), so this is news to me! Thank you for forwarding that on!

You never know...and hackers/identity thieves just keeps getting more sophisticated. I read an interview with an internet security expert who said, "If you have EVER bought anything online, your credit card information has been compromised. Thieves just haven't used it yet."

Tracy, I don't think anyone can blame you for that!

There is a setting on your phone you can change (or should be) so that it does not automatically "tag" the pic with your GPS location.

Hope that helps, I know how convenient it is to be able to take those pics with the phone sometimes.

    Happy sparking!
