Week 3 - Attack the belly

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Well here I am and week 3 commences. The weight was down a wee bit ( 99kg down from 99.2 last week) and the vital measurements remain the same. I don't know if everyone has this problem but I am finding it hard to measure consistently - trying to relax and measure the belly just under the belly button, hip measurement seems to be the hardest to get correct - I was sort of expecting some relief there this week due to all the walking I done but I guess its turned into muscle (well that's my story).

Anyway as the objective is to reduce the beer belly and this week there was no movement there ( in saying that there was some beer consumed twice over the weekend so I should be happy that it didn't expand) I fell I need to do some abs this week. I sort of 'like' the idea of the Pilates thought I find them hard to do but I guess the old adage of no pain no gain is true. I had intended to do some yesterday but managed to 'forget' them so I'll just need to do them today.

It's a bit like giving up smoking this weight management programme - you fell great for the first few days / weeks then slowly the old craving for foods re-appear. The first week I felt proud passing the bakery without going in for a cream bun, now its hard - I'm even getting the aroma of food when I'm out on a walk and I'm thinking ...... but at least so far I have not given in too much.

As I reflect on the past few weeks and look at the sort of things I've been eating I am beginning to realise that I need to make serious changes to my menu. Its just too rich and most likely accounts for both of us being 'above average'. The problem is what to cut, how many 'nice dinners' a week to have - I think we have more 'treat days' than non-treat days so that will have to change. Something to consider for next week ( got a family birthday this Friday so it will be steaks on the barbie for sure).

Anyway here's taking a deep breath (sucking the tummy into the spine) and hoping that next week I can report some missing inches .......
