The Fifty Best Brain Foods (and weight loss/maintenance foods!)

Well. This has been a good week. My friend Rosanna came around at the pivotal time. My most difficult triggers: going out of town, eating at restaurants, being around amazing desserts in abundance, and parties. I will JUST about reach my goal range, and then bounce back up 10 pounds with mindless, I don't care anymore (but I really do) mentality with a trigger food / trigger situation weekend.

I loved SLIMKATIE's post that she took a fruit salad and a turkey dog to grill to her family's July 4th party. It has helped me to get back on track to lose the 10 pounds (again for the millionth time) and to plan ahead for the next trigger situation. Oh!! WIN!! so after reading her post, we went to a Dodger baseball game - which normally means order candy and nachos and hot dogs and junk food. I ate before we went and ordered a diet coke. Enjoyed it and DID JUST FINE. One of my pledges to myself this past year while losing 47 pounds is to only drink water, almond milk, non-fat or 1% milk and herbal tea. So a diet coke is a treat.

Since this is supposed to be a HELP page for maintenance, here is the best thing that has helped me this past month (besides RosesPoses and SLIMKATIE):

My sister sent me two books. "French Women Don't Get Fat" and "Change Your Brain, Change Your Body". CBCB is by Daniel G. Amen. In his book, Dr. Amen has a list of "The Fifty Best Brain Foods". If I eat from this list all day, I stay at goal weight and within calorie range:

1. Almonds, raw
2. Almond milk, unsweetened (this works great for cereal and is 40 calories/cup!)
(plus, whoever binged on almond milk?? Milk and cookies a bad trigger for me.)
3. Apples
4. Asparagus
5. Avocados
6. Bananas
7. Beans, black, pinto, garbanzo
8. Bell peppers, yellow, green, red and orange
9. Beets (Trader Joe's has them already cooked, peeled and packaged)
10. Blackberries
11. Blueberries
12. Broccoli
13. Brussels sprouts
14. Carrots
15. Cheese, low fat
16. Cherries
17. Chicken, skinless
18. Cranberries
19. Egg whites, DHA enriched
20. Grapefruit
21. Herring
22. Honeydew
23. Kiwi
24. Lemons
25. Lentils
26. Limes
27. Oats
28. Olives
29. Olive oil
30. Oranges
31. Peaches
32. Peas
33. Plums
34. Pomegranates
35. Raspberries
36. Red grapes
37. Soybeans
38. Spinach
39. Strawberries
40. Tea, green
41. Tofu
42. Tomatoes
43. Tuna
44. Turkey, skinless
45. Walnuts
46. Water
47. Whole wheat
48. Wild salmon
49. Yams and sweet potatoes
50. Yogurt, unsweetened

Pick 20 or 25 of these and have them be your main foods during the week.

Thanks, Rosie. The longest I've ever stayed under 134 pounds is for 10 days.
I'm at 3 days now. We can DOOOOOOOOOOOO this. I weighed 128 on my wedding day.
That anniversary is Sept 12. Wouldn't that be fun to keep in 128 - 133 range the next 2 months?? JUNEYPETUNIE

    a great blog and I am printing out those 50 foods, I too can get to goal weight, but it isn't long before I am creeping back up I am up 10 pounds over again, and have really been trying to lose it, maintaining is not easy for me, I guess not for anyone, but this time I will do it.
