18 months Sparking - I am one grateful guy!

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Although I am only half way to my goal of loosing 150lbs by my 65th birthday I celebrated on 6/27, I am grateful for having made it this far. It had been 20 years since I was below 300 lbs despite many, many campaigns to reach this milestone. At 6'3" and 290 lbs, I have many more good days than bad days. In the 18 months since I began Sparking, I have endured the loss of my only brother to cancer, two bouts with kidney stones, extensive testing for bladder cancer and skin cancer, as well as 3 four weeks periods of severe back pain.
My point in writing about this, is to share that despite the challenges, it is possible for a senior with a long history of obesity to improve their life tremendously if they are willing to adopt a healthy new lifestyle and abandon DIETiNG forever.
I have stayed the same weight for the last 4 months...I haven't done that in 40 years!

With the help of God, my family and my spark friends I will do my very best every day to loose the 70 lbs to reach my goal weight by my 66th birthday.

I will be forever grateful for all your support and for Spark!

To paraphrase the late, great, George M Cohen " my wife thanks you, my 3 children thank you, my 6 grandkids thank you....and I thank you'"

I was ready to jump all over you for saying "...only half way..." because it sounded like you were minimizing the progress you've made so far. 70lbs is a tremendously impressive weight loss especially in view of all the medical problems which could have sabotaged your efforts. You are an inspiration to all of us and we are very proud of you as you should be of yourself. God bless you and keep you motivated to reach your goal and comfortably stay there.

I'm late joining the cheering but they are nevertheless heartfelt cheers. It isn't easy after the initial weight loss but 4 months maintainance is brilliiant. Up your water, add an extra piece of fresh fruit and drop one coffee, it might make a difference.
    best wishes, Sandra
