Firecracker 5K

Friday, July 06, 2012

I ran in my 3rd 5K on Wednesday. Kind of disappointed with the "official" results because I'm not sure they properly tracked my start time. Results state 38:13 which I'm sure that's when I crossed the finish line after at least a 2 min lag at the start. Oh well. My RunKeeper gave me these results which I'm more satisfied with:
Mile 1 11:31
Mile 2 12:22
Mile 3 11:31
No official end time on the RK because I was too concerned with getting water and forgot to stop the timer, oops! Running at 9am on July 4 when the forecast is about 95 degrees is BRUTAL, probably not my smartest of ideas but happy I did it anyway. The course was hilly, great on the downhill side of the hill but rough on the uphill. I suffer from migraines and Wednesday was probably one of the worst (pain-wise) cluster of migraines I've had in awhile. Certainly due to the long stretch of 90+ degree weather we've had in addition to the outside 5K. Needless to say, I slept for most of the day, ate dinner and was back in bed just after 9. I know I'm pointing out the worst but I'm still so happy I did it. I'm happy with the semi consistent pace I was able to keep, happy I got my finance to run too (his first race, finished around 29, "officially"!). The mental part is the absolute toughest part for me. Even in the horrible heat I kept it together mentally and pushed thru to the finish line. emoticon

My next race isn't until the 10K at the end of September but I'm sure I'll fit in another 5K or two before then. I like having the experience of more races under my belt, getting there and not feeling nervous is so big for me. Next few days while we're still under this heat spell I'll probably be running indoors at the gym. I prefer outdoors but what can ya do. I still don't love running, but I love what running does for me. Super added bonus, I have noticed less cellulite on my legs!

Good job, Becky! And you got the man to do it, too! emoticon
My last race, I never saw a start line. I just started moving when the people in front of me did but never did I see anything that marked where the start was, so I didn't know when to start my Garmin. That was a little aggravating.

Migraines: I finally figured out in April that my son was having them. I thought he had an immunity problem & kept getting a stomach virus. It took about 18 months for me to realize headaches were triggering the vomiting.
Wednesday evening he started getting one but he went to bed & woke up fine yesterday. Then in the middle of the night he started throwing up again & is still at it. He says his head doesn't hurt like a migraine, so I don't know what is up this time. But maybe it is still related?
