Fit and Fab at 40....reaching my goals (pictures included!)
Wednesday, July 04, 2012
So, when I started on this journey in January 2011 I wanted quick progress... we all set unrealistic goals. But this time I knew this change was a permanent one and that it might come off slower, but I was going to be in the best shape I could be by my 40th birthday.
And well, I am.
Here is a picture I took of myself alone in my bathroom in December 2010 since I would never have let someone photograph me in a bikini!
And I have kept that picture on my phone as a constant reminder of where I started and how far I have come. It's been an amazing year .... participated in so many events 5k's, triathlons,50 mile cycle, tough mudder, running group and just overall much more active swimming at home, hiking with kids, walking up stairs everywhere, etc... And it has been slow - but it's been steady!
I am stronger... I can now do 25 push ups, when I couldn't do even 2 when I started -- I have muscle definition that I have never had before. And feel younger and more energetic now than I did when I was 25! This is a lifestyle I am excited to continue. I can't wait for the next 10years.
This past weekend I went to Lake Placid with my husband and friends so the boys could participate in a triathlon training camp. They are signed up for a half ironman in September. After being there and seeing so many athletes up there training (since a full ironman is taking place in Lake Placid in a couple weeks) I am so inspired and I hope to complete a half ironman sometime soon! (and a little crazy part of my brain secretly hopes I can even do a full ironman in this lifetime! - it's the one reason I said I would actually get a tattoo! Most people get the ironman logo on their ankle after they've completed one! I saw people this weekend that had 5 logo's on their legs--crazy, yet inspiring to me!)
Anyway.... here is a picture taken 10 days after my 40th birthday. I am so happy with my progress. This is my new inspirational picture. After so much work and sweat to see it finally paying off is AMAZING!!
Best thing I ever did was make this commitment to myself. I had always put everyone else first --and so it is so fulfilling to actually make myself a priority!! I hope to be setting a good example for my kids too and am excited to get them involved in triathlons and other events as they get older!
So...don't give up on yourself....stay committed....it is so worth it! I am not done yet and know that the future is going to be even better!
