Quick Question to walk/runners

Tuesday, July 03, 2012

I began the 5K Your Way Walk/Jog plan again today (I started before but quit due to some health stuff that I am now getting under control). I am determined to see it through. Even if I can't lose a lot of weight right now, I can still accomplish things and this is something that I have always wanted to accomplish. Anyway, my question is this, I run at a turtles pace and I accept this, but I DO run, the problem is that when I track the workout through the 5KYW plan it always comes out in my fitness thing as JUST walking. Which I feel is not accurate. Is it wrong to change it in my fitness tracker to the "Intervals of run/walk or walk/jog: 6mph or slower (>10 minutes per mile)" (as the tracker lists it)? Or should I just keep it as is and revel in the knowledge that my calorie burn will be what it will be regardless of what SP says? (no offense SP, I still love you!)

Thanks for your time!

I had a similar problem, and ended up just going with the intervals. Either way though, everyone's right - the important thing is you're DOING it!!! Great job!!

Good for you! For the tracking, I think you should track the intervals, it seems more accurate to me.

It looks like you have some good advice here and I agree that you have to do what feels most comfortable for you.

I think the important thing is that you are jogging.... log it as whatever the hell you want. Whatever makes you get through, continue to run, and get through the freaking day. As long as you keep on going... :)

I'd always say under-estimate rather than over estimate on calories burned, and vice versa for calories consumed!! Either way you decide - congrats on the decision to run!! You can do it!!! emoticon

Whoo hoo! Good for you! It is fine to change to the interval 6 mph or slower. The big thing is to keep on and run happy! emoticon

I used to worry about what it said... no longer. I'm in the "my calorie burn will be what it will be" camp these days. Do what feels right for YOU, and you'll be fine! After all, this is just the tracking, the actions you took are the real deal!

Congrats on starting the program! One thing someone warned me about week 4? "Run SLOWER"... so don't worry if you run at turtle pace... you're fine! emoticon emoticon emoticon
