Today is My Day

Yes, it really is my day today. As in, today is my birthday.
I ate terribly. My co-workers, God bless them all, went all-out for my birthday. They brought me in muffins for breakfast, pizza, taco dip, and fruit for lunch, and I went to Texas Roadhouse with my girls for dinner. I ate little bits, and I drank water all day, so I guess it could have been worse. And birthday calories shouldn't count anyway (I know, they do, but a girl can dream, can't she?).
That being said, I am proud of the fact that since last Monday (11 days), I have managed to drink at least 72 ounces of water a day. I'm quite proud that I am managing to stick with that little daily goal. I have had a beer or two, but I've stayed away from the soda, which is HUGE for me.
Running has...come to standstill this past week, mostly because I'm an idiot and forgot I was old. I joined a co-ed softball league last weekend, and played my first game Sunday. My last time around the bases, I was running to third and made the bone-headed decision to slide, because I knew I was going to be out for sure if I didn't. So I started with a foot-first slide, ended with a head-first slide, and tore up the entire left side of my body. Muscles that I didn't know existed ache. I have bruises every shade of blue you can imagine. Scrapes and cuts that make it look like I went through the trenches.
And on top of all that, I was STILL called out. I maintain that I should have been safe on principle.
My dear friend reminded me last night, however, that I have my next race in less than two months, so I really do have to hit the pavement tomorrow. I will be playing softball again Sunday, but I promise: no sliding!
Tomorrow's goals: 64 ounces + of water, run, eat well, track my food better.
And Happy Birthday to ME!
