Boycotting Floor Exercises

Today I tried Body Vive which combines cardio with a ball & resistance band. I did fine; the resistance band was brand new so stretching was really hard! Things were going great until the dreaded floor exercises. Isn't there some way to accomplish ab work without being laid out on the floor like a beached whale?

Spent some time perusing Spark People. They have a section called SparkPeople Funnies. Some are funny; some are too close to being true..... For example, in one the doctor asks his (overweight) patient - "What fits your busy schedule better, exercising one hour a day or being dead 24 hours a day?"

    There is an ab exercise that you can do anytime, anywhere called the "vacuum".
    Basically you just suck in your stomach and contract the muscles, trying to get the belly button to touch the spine (impossible, of course, but you get the picture) and hold the contraction for a specified period of time. Bodybuilders do this when they want to get cut. Basically, it is isometrics. You could google it to get better info and more specifics.

    I'm with you! The getting down on the floor isn't the hard part for me, it's trying to get up again after I've attempted to accomplish the floor exercises. Unfortunately I haven't found any other replacement that will work those muscles as well, so I guess we're stuck with it. Have to admit though, I don't do those exercises as much as I should, which I'm sure isn't making it any easier, or better, in the long run. emoticon
