Weekend stuffs and back at it

Friday afternoon we had mega drama near my home. A good friend of my hubby had a motorcycle accident at the turn in to our road. It was really really bad. His bike caught fire and he was hurt so bad we didn't expect him to make it. Hubby took off to see if he could help when he heard the wreck and then discovered who it was. He stayed by his side trying to get him to respond until the medical people put him in the ambulance. They ended up med flighting him out from the accident site. So the rest of the night, I went between trying to comfort my Hubby who was devastated and entertaining my son who I didn't want to be involved except the bare minimum since we didn't know what was going to happen. Turns out he is going to live but it will be a long hard road of healing.

It hit me especially hard b/c Hubby is a bike mechanic who rides a Harley on his daily commute. His first name just happens to be the same as the friends name too. So I had everyone that heard about it in our small town calling to make sure it wasn't my Hubby. I felt terrible feeling grateful that it wasn't my C, even though it was her C. Life sat up and slapped me into being grateful for my family and life. I couldn't stop hugging Hubby and wanting to be close to him. He on the other hand doesn't like others to see him cry so he only allowed so much coddling. He did hold me for a little while and told me it was okay that I felt the way I did. Which got me to crying that he understood what I was going through even though he was dealing with so much worse.

Saturday he took off work and we spent the day as a family. I think we needed it after the night before. We went to our local city summer blankfest, checked out vendors, and let the boy play in bouncy houses.

Sunday we drove to Tulsa for the last bout of my roller derby season. We lost and it was not the best experience. But at least the road trip was fun!

Monday I took off since I wasn't home until early morning. I spent the day nursing my bruises and sore muscles from hitting the wall that was a big stout derby girl from the other team several times. And her hitting me HARD many times.

I was pretty awful on calories but did well with my water intake. I'm back on the ball today. And I hear our friend might leave the hospital today. But he has to go back for another surgery next Monday.

Hope everyone is happy and healthy!

Wow. I'm glad to hear that your friend is doing better but sorry to hear about the accident. Weird how we love our family so much but it really isn't until something like this happens that we are sooo aware of it. I'm glad to you were able to have a weekend to reaffirm that.

I hope he continues to do better.

Accidents like that really do scare the pants off you and put life's blessings in perspective all at the same time. You are absolutely entitled to feel relieved that it wasn't your husband in that accident - I would have felt the same way. I'm so glad your friend is going to survive! It sounds like he's lucky to have done so.

Separately, I'm glad roller derby is done for the season - you sound like you need a break and time with your family now more than ever.
