Traveling Report Card

Monday, June 25, 2012

I was in Montana from Wednesday night through Saturday for a business trip and I had made plans to keep my goals in mind while traveling. The business part went well, the healthy lifestyle was a little less well... I also went straight from the airport to the mountains for a quick overnight camping trip.

Good Things:
- I brought a jump rope and fitness clothes
- I did keep an eye on what I ate and made some reasonable decisions
- I took the stairs whenever I could
- I got right back on track when I got home
- I tried to drink water throughout the day

Bad Things:
- I never used the jump rope (or the fitness center)
- I drank. A lot.
- Even watching my food, I'm sure I went over what I should have eaten
- I ate really horribly once I switched into camping
- I didn't get nearly enough sleep

Overall I'm going to give myself a C- on this trip. I did some planning beforehand, and I was conscience of my choices throughout the trip, which I feel is a great first step. I was not fully committed to the healthy lifestyle I'm trying to build because I did choose to go out drinking instead of getting back to the hotel early and working out. I also had fun and I would have missed out on some networking if I hadn't gone out, so it's tough to say that I should have gone back.

On the camping trip, I made sure to try to stay a little active with some light hiking. When I got home I grabbed a red bull and was VERY active with getting everything unloaded and cleaned, grocery shopping and even my C25K run!! I am so proud that I got the run in. Right about the time that it started to cool down (it was probably over 100 degrees most of the day) I heard thunder. With all deliberate speed I put on my gym clothes, grabbed my music and started running. I think I ran faster with the idea that maybe the run would be over sooner (and I wouldn't get totally dumped on with the storm). This was silly because I run to a timed program, but I was happy with the quicker times anyway. Unfortunately, it didn't rain on me at all. Colorado so needs the water and I was kind of looking forward to running in the rain.

P.S. This means that I won't be meeting my "Four Gold Star Weeks" goal and I won't be buying myself that bag. Perhaps next month I will be a little more motivated? I do still think that I am on track for my 10lbs goal by the end of the month though.

Had similar traveling issues and no fitness center however, I traded lunch for 45 minutes of walking and went out for one hour each night before dinner. I normally always try to stay in hotels with fitness centers, but in some out of the way places they don't have them, but then I try to find a park or someplace nice to walk more and skip lunch. I just do a healthy energy bar and drink more water.

Have to admit I was not a good on the foods for dinner as I normally am however, but then traveling is a challenge isn't it.

Keep up reaching for the goal.
