Training for a century... on dirt

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Yes, we crazy peeps here in Dallas do a Century mountain bike ride. It is held at a local trail and this year happens September 15th. I think last year a grand total of 2 people (maybe 3) made it to 100 miles. I have no idea if I can do a full 100 miles, but I want to see how far I can get. I average about 9.5 mph on this trail... so that would be a lot, a lot of hours of riding. When it's HOT here. Anyway... I'm going to try.

I'm going to start training each weekend on that trail... early morning. I did 20 miles yesterday. Next weekend I'll try for 30 miles each day. Then build a training schedule from there.

Bonus... riding that much in this heat should help me get to my goal weight faster. LOL

That sounds great and a lot of fun! Good luck with the training! Sounds like a great plan to build up weekly mileage. emoticon

That century sounds tough! Good luck. "Hot" has a whole different meaning in Texas than it does in Colorado! Do they have hydration stations along the way?

    Thanks, Bruce
