Old Hwy 30 and Vista House

Sunday, June 24, 2012

After we walked Multnomah Falls we drove on East along old HWY 30 to visit Vista House. This was probably the first rest stop every built. The CCC did a beautiful job. We were driving along and suddenly there it was.

It was very nice inside I even took a picture of the ladies restroom which is done in real marble.

They had information about HWY 30 posted along the walls. I took a picture of this because I thought it was a shame that this beautiful tunnel was destroyed whent they built Interstate 5 in the 60s.

From the balcony I saw another overlook further east so we drove on a little further. When we got to that overlook and looked back this is what we saw. Pretty nice.

This is the kind of scenery you see driving on HWY 30 instead of I-5.

Thanks for sharing these lovely pictures and interesting comments. We live at the other end of I-5, in Grants Pass.
We'll try to check out your discovery of this unique rest stop in the future.
