Ups and Downs of the Grocery Store
Saturday, June 23, 2012
I went shopping tonight after dinner, so I had a nice full tummy. Who would have thought I would have had such an emotional roller coaster! I was first overjoyed to find both green and red peppers under $1!! I completely spaced it was that time of year, so I stocked up on them and I'm going to check out some new recipes for them! My first major let down was the inability to find hazelnuts. I've been seeing them in my Spark meal planner and they sounded SOOOOOOO good. When I couldn't find them I was a bit disappointed, but then I found cocoa covered almonds! So crisis averted! Everything was actually going quite well, and I made it out to the car. On the drive home my hubs called and told me we were out of batteries, so I swung around to hit up Target. At Target I had to get a new hair brush since mine had taken a beating from blow drying, and I just couldn't find one that would work for me. The one I had in mind was gone. (yes I know, I'm so dramatic about this little stuff, lol). I browsed a bit more only to discover a hair brush designed just for blow drying! It had a ceramic plate and everything!! Yay! On a long shot I ran through the two nut aisles, both snack nuts and baking nuts. I wasn't too hopeful, but I found the hazelnuts I was craving!!! If my knee was in better shape, I bet I would have done a jig right there in the store, seriously, I was that happy! I wandered a bit further down that same aisle and found coffee and tea. I figured we were about out of the orange pekoe tea I've been drinking, but couldn't find one brand that had it there. Sigh, just another let down. Until I found the perfect herbal tea blend so I can drink a bit of hot tea in the evenings when I'm craving it!! About this time I realized I was getting a bit hungry. All this eating right and getting more active is kicking my metabolism up a notch, and I didn't have my big purse with a couple of snacks. Oh no! I'm in the middle of a grocery store craving something...anything. My craving took over and I found myself wandering the prepared foods over by the deli. Sushi, sandwiches, wraps, chicken salad, soda...all kinds of things that sounded amazing, but I some how managed to avoid. I started wishing there would be a small sample station for bread or sweets, but luckily there wasn't. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't even consider running through a drive thru! As I got in the checkout lane my stomach started to grumble a bit. Blargh! Could I make it until I got home? Light bulb!!! I bought cocoa almonds! That will be the perfect fill me up sweet snack that's actually good for me!! Yay!!
Talk about a crazy grocery trip, but I ended up with a whole lot of healthy food, and very little, if any unhealthy food. So proud of myself! I even celebrated by buying new stuff for the dog, cat and kids, lol. Hope they all like what I got them!
