Pics of Miss Kitty's weight saga

Friday, June 22, 2012

Oh man, you know how when you gain weight it happens so slowly you don't really notice until you see that one pictures that makes you realize how much you've gained?!

I took that picture of Miss Kitty today.

Here is her weight saga in pics:

A year ago, far too skinny

After she reached a healthy weight

After Christmas, starting to get a little belly

And today...sigh

The vet called back earlier this week, and Miss Kitty weighed in at 21 pounds, 8 oz when we were in last. Vet says we need to get her down to about 15 pounds, so about 6 and a half pounds to lose! That's almost 30% of her body mass!!

So I can't lose 30% of my body mass. That would put me at 110 pounds. But I CAN...and I SHOULD...lose 6.5 pounds. Actually, 12-13 pounds will put me at my goal weight!

So she and I will be embarking on a two-month long regime to lose the weight and get healthy! We've spent at least half an hour playing every night this week...lots of jumping for the mouse on a string, chasing the laser pointer, and playing on the boxes I set out for her. Her food has been rationed from two cups (1 in the morning, 1 at night) to 1.5 cups a day. And she doesn't get ANY treats until I see some progress. And the same goes for me...I can't expect my cat to get healthy without giving her a good example, can I?!?!

Cheers to a healthy rest of June and July. My next official weigh-in is July 4, when I should be down to 152 according to my goal line. After that, I weigh in again on Labor Day...and then, I should be down to my goal of 145!! AN END IS IN SIGHT!! Well, more of an achievement than an end, but you know what I mean...

I love the pictures! Miss Kitty's girth is like both of my kitties : )
You both can do it, you'll just have to work together. I love that you were playing laser pointer, both of my cats are too snobby to play it now, they used to.
Keep up the good work, you're not far from the goal.

Quite right, RR1_RR1, our last female Boxer had a thyroid problem and packed on the lbs. Her skin turned dark, almost black. I don't know if different species would exhibit similar symptoms but it might be something to check, Frenchifal.

JENISLOVINGLIFE, yeah, our dogs thought an ice cube was the best treat EVER for much the same reason.

Miss Kitty and Mr. Rascal (mine) are in the same boat! But he looks like he's lost some weight due to his illness. Hopefully it will stay off and I can help him get the rest off. I too cannot take off 30% (40 lbs). I will be happy with just the 15. Here's to health for our furbabies and US! HUGS

Awe, Miss Kitty is adorable. I have two male cats (brothers) that are the same coloring. Have fun on your journey together.
For cat treats, I give the, cat food. I keep a little jar of it on the counter and they think they are getting something special. It's just their same food, they have no idea! I wish it could work like the for my son!
I am excited for you to reach your goal weight this year!! That's awesome!
