I thought I was picking healthy foods....

Thursday, June 21, 2012

At Paneras I had the black bean soup and a chicken Asian salad. I thought i was picking healthy foods.

I put them in the food tracker. First salt in both was very high.
emoticon Why should salt in a salad be high?????

The salad had carbs, fats, protein, but almost
emoticon no other nutrients! I couldn't believe it!

The black bean soup had carbs, fats, proteins and a few
emoticon more nutrients but not fantastic.....

The fresh veggies I have been eating at home all come up with many nutrients! Wow, what a difference!

And I used my Panera card (new recently) to that restaurant. Online it said on my birthday I'd get a free hamburger. I think I signed up for my card one day after my birthday because I did not know about the card before that. When I got to the restaurant---they gave me a free pastry of my choice. emoticonI got it and took it home to my husband. he was delighted!

But this morning I did get to my 2 emoticon emoticonwater aerobic classes!!! Only on Thursdays are there 2 in a row, one regular class and then zumba in the water!

My lunch was with a good friend. We couldn't stop talking.........2 hours!!! Probably the restaurant wouldn't have been happy if they knew that.......but it is my birthday! I can do anything I want, right?

Sounds to me like you had a pretty good birthday. I know that I can think of few better ways to spend mine, than with good friends and close family.

And, if a thing or two went astray, those are issues for another day. :)

Stay positive, and you'll reach all of your goals with a smile on your face and a song in your soul!

Remember that the only nutrients that must be given are vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron. And that's only for nutrition labels on food packages or for national chain restaurants. They don't have to give the other nutrients. So it's very possible you got much more than you realize, but the data just isn't there for you to know.

There are so many places to get freebies or cheapies on your birthday. I've spent the last 3 birthdays getting freebies. There are websites dedicated to how to get freebies on your birthday. As for the length of time, I think of it this way: you're paying to use that space - if there is plenty of other space for other customers (as in they're not full up with a line waiting to be seated) - if the waitress/waiter needs to leave s/he can let you know so you can pay and give her/him a tip. If the place is half empty and you're taking your time, they usually aren't too worried about how long you're there. On my birthday I got a free breakfast at Denny's and sat there about an hour, hour and a half I think. I was reading and eating slowly (as I have to), sitting alone in a booth, and I kept an eye out to make sure there were plenty of other tables open for other customers. Then I gave a tip about 30% of what it would have cost if it wasn't free ($2 for a meal less than $7).

I'm glad you were able to make it to your water aerobics classes and that your hubby enjoyed his treat.

Happy Birthday! That's one of the hardest things about eating out...so much sodium...they want you to drink more too! LOL! I guess that's why they say eating at home is so much better for you. I do like Panera too BTW. emoticon

Happy Birthday! Sounds like a great way to celebrate. It is so hard to pick the right thing some times. I've been fooled more than once. But good for you for trying!
And water Zumba!!! That sounds like so much fun!

Most restaurants and food companies supply only an abbreviated list of nutrition info, so lots of zeros don't necessarily mean that those nutrients aren't present. However...restaurant food, as you know, usually isn't very high in nutrients anyway. :-/

The nutrition info that is supplied for actual ingredients via SparkPeople is usually much more complete.

So glad you are enjoying your Birthday festivities!! :)

It always amazes me how much salt there is in restaurant foods.
