pushing through...

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

I've had a couple of short night's sleep, not because I'm not going to bed early enough, but because I have awakened in the middle of the night and not been able to get back to sleep for two nights in a row. So this morning, I was really tired and didn't want to get out of bed, and even when I did, I couldn't wake up. I was very, very late getting myself upstairs to the exercise bike, and even considered skipping, when my little voice spoke quite loudly: GET ON THE BIKE. So even though it was very late, and even though I really did not want to, I got on the bike. Not the hardest workout I've ever had, but I am glad that I did it..

A long time ago, I got some advice that even today, like 30 years later, I remember: being emotionally healthy is not about how you deal with the really good times, or even the really bad times, it's how you react and respond to the everyday, ho-hum, average travails of life. It is when you have a handle on just average daily living that you know you are okay.

I think today was one of those victories. I certainly wasn't on top of the day, nor was it a day that found me down and out, it was a day I just needed to get it done, and I did, and got to check off one more day of exercise and trying hard. Good stuff...
